At Macfarlane, we anodize customer parts for industrial or decorative purposes.  Our clients come from commercial, industrial and architectural industries. The categroies  range from lighting and audio parts to automotive and other machine parts.

The types of anodizing we perform are:

  • Sulphuric Acid Type II , Class I and II
  • Hard coat (thicker anodic coating, very durable)

We can provide a number of finishes from clear to coloured (black, red, blue, green, and gold). We can also strip your parts prior to anodizing.

What is anodizing?

Anodizing is an electrochemical process which converts the surface of the aluminum into a decorative, durable, corrosion-resistant, anodic oxide finish. The aluminum oxide is fully integrated with the underlying aluminum substrate so it cannot chip or peel. It has a highly ordered, porous structure which allows for secondary processes such as colouring and sealing.

Anodizing provides the following benefits:

  • Durability – The protective anodic layer helps to provide an extremely long life span for anodized parts.
  • Maintenance – Anodized parts maintain their attractive appearance even when being fabricated, handled and installed.
  • Colour Stability – Most colours provide good stability to ultraviolet rays and do not chip or peel.
  • Aesthetics – Anodizing allows the aluminum to maintain its metallic appearance.
  • Health and Safety – Anodizing is a safe process which is not harmful to human health. An anodized finish is chemically stable, will not decompose, is non-toxic, and is heat-resistant to the melting point of aluminum.
